Yuriko Takagi "chaoscosmos vol.3 — visible viscosity" Opening Report: How Does Photography Capture the "Invisible Nature"?
Summary
Yuriko Takagi's photo exhibition "chaoscosmos vol.3 — visible viscosity" opened on October 8, 2024, at GYRE GALLERY in Omotesando, Tokyo, and runs until November 29. This exhibition is the third installment of Takagi's "chaoscosmos" project, which observes natural phenomena through the lens. Takagi studied graphic design at Musashino Art University and fashion design at Trent Polytechnic in the UK, and has since worked as a photographer, capturing human existence through clothing and the human body worldwide. In spring 2024, she held "Threads of Beauty 1995–2025" at Bunkamura The Museum. "Chaoscosmos" is a term coined by Takagi combining chaos and cosmos, and while photographing natural phenomena, she came to feel that they are not opposites but coexist simultaneously and relationally. The first series, "icing process," photographed the freezing of water into ice; the second, "sakura," explored cherry blossoms; and this third installment focuses on viscosity.
