First Held in Tokyo's Waterfront Area: International Art Exhibition "TOKYO ATLAS" Opens, Intervening in Urban Landscapes and Awakening History and Memory
Summary
The new international art exhibition "TOKYO ATLAS" opens on October 10 and runs until December 20. It takes place at venues in Tokyo's Odaiba, Aomi, and Tennozu areas, including Telecom Center Building, Odaiba Beach Park, Isle Shinagawa, and an underground parking lot in Aomi. Organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo International Arts Festival Executive Committee, the exhibition features over 20 artists from Japan and abroad. It inherits preparations from the canceled "Tokyo Odaiba Triennale 2025," with Masanori Aoyagi as executive committee chairman and Tadayasu Sakakura and Akiko Miki as artistic directors. At an October 8 press conference, Aoyagi noted that the waterfront has supported Tokyo's development since the Edo period and that art can shake up accumulated urban layers and transform them into energy for the next era. Sakakura, who curates at Odaiba Park, Odaiba Beach Park, Telecom Center Building, and Isle Shinagawa, said the goal is to reveal the city's inherent wild charm through art. Miki, handling four venues in the Aomi area, aims to highlight the region's origins and characteristics through artists' perspectives.
