Ginza's Expressway Ruins Transformed into a Massive Art Space: 'Roof Park Art Fes 2026' Featuring YOSHIROTTEN and Others
Summary
The art event "Roof Park Art Fes 2026" will be held from November 21 to 29 on the former Tokyo Expressway (KK Line), which runs through Ginza and other areas of Tokyo. The KK Line, a roughly 2-kilometer automobile-only road connecting Kyobashi, Ginza, and Shimbashi, was used for about 60 years but was largely decommissioned in April 2025. Currently, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Expressway Co., Ltd. are promoting the "Roof Park Project" to regenerate it into a pedestrian-centered, lush public space. This event is the first art event held as part of that regeneration project. Graphic artist YOSHIROTTEN will create the main installation, developing works under the concept "INVISIBLE - A signal of River -" with the theme of "visualizing the invisible." At the venue, installations projecting past photographs related to the area and a large-scale work of about 40 meters will appear. By overlapping the lights of Tokyo after sunset with structures that retain traces of the era when it was a road, it aims to create a unique art experience. Setouchi Circus Factory will also participate.
