A World Expanding from a Single Drop: Kenichiro Fukumoto's Recent Works—Attempts at Biomorphic Painting (Text by Yasuhide Nihata)
Summary
Kenichiro Fukumoto's solo exhibition "The World is a Drop" is on view at AKIINOUE in Daikanyama, Tokyo, until November 8. Born in 1986 in Hiroshima, Fukumoto completed his master's at Tokyo University of the Arts and is based in Tokyo. He starts his creative process by immersing himself in visual images of small, familiar things like plants, water, soil, and moss, resulting in biomorphic abstract forms. His childhood experience in his grandfather's chrysanthemum greenhouse, travels in Southeast Asia during a 2011 study abroad in Singapore, and participation in the 2018 Yambaru Art Festival have influenced his work. He regularly visits Koishikawa Botanical Garden for inspiration. This exhibition follows his 2023 "Project N97" show at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery.
