"Tenjishitsu Project Exhibition: Even in Unseen Places, Something Is Always Happening" Opening Report: What Are We Overlooking in the World?
Summary
The exhibition "Tenjishitsu Project Exhibition: Even in Unseen Places, Something Is Always Happening" opened on October 15 at the Chofu City Cultural Center Tazukuri in Tokyo and runs until January 24, 2027. It is the culmination of the three-year "Tenjishitsu Project" that began in 2024. Curated by Nozomu Ogawa, representative of Art Center Ongoing/Art Center NEW, it features four artists: Aokid, Yudai Iikawa, Yoshihisa Iguchi, and Tatsuru Hatayama. Their works, which focus on the "unseen" beyond one's own experience and perception, are presented in the gallery and around the city of Chofu. At the preview, Ogawa stated that while people today feel they understand the world through vast information from the internet and smartphones, they actually grasp only a limited scope. The exhibition aims to encourage viewers to look away from their phones and imagine the many simultaneous events occurring even where they cannot see. Tatsuru Hatayama focuses on the cycle of life and rebirth of familiar weeds, overlaying them with the image of a phoenix, and uses motifs of things he once avoided seeing. Aokid presents an installation based on research in Chofu and will also perform improvised stays and workshops in the city in November. Collaborative works with citizens will be added during the exhibition, causing the display to evolve.
