Art Meets Care Society's 2026 General Meeting and Conference "Reconnecting Art and Care" to Be Held in Osaka
Summary
The Art Meets Care Society will hold its 2026 general meeting and conference over two days, October 31 and November 1, in Osaka. The theme is "Reconnecting Art and Care: Octopus-style research practice? What's that? I don't know, but," and Yosuke Hirota (Osaka Metropolitan University) serves as executive committee chair. Founded in 2006 with about 200 members, the society bridges research and practice in art and care to open new horizons of knowledge and beauty. Marking its 20th anniversary, this year's event aims to evolve into research practice inspired by the octopus—which touches, thinks, and moves with its arms—so that new practices and ideas emerge where tentacles meet. Day one features the general meeting and two keynote lectures: Shinya Noguchi (Seifu Gakusha) will speak on translating views of the body into the language of the era in "Before It Takes Form," and Jennifer Lee will share how art can be a method of social transformation through the Mekong Cultural Hub's practice. Day two will include research presentations, practice reports, and breakout sessions. Advance registration has reached capacity, but some programs remain open, including free experience booths on day one and later archives of the keynotes, with member-only content also available.
