Michiko Tsuda: Weather of the Body @ Keio Museum Commons
Summary
Keio Museum Commons (KeMCo) presents "Michiko Tsuda: Weather of the Body," a solo exhibition by artist Michiko Tsuda, as the third installment of its contemporary art series connecting with contemporary creation. Born in Kanagawa in 1980, Tsuda has explored perception, the precariousness of human cognition, and the richness of illusion through installation, video, and performance. She earned a doctorate from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2013, has performed as the duo "Chisha" with Megumi Kamimura, stayed in New York as an ACC grantee in 2019, and since 2021 has developed the running event "and run." She received the Tokyo Contemporary Art Award 2022-2024 and has been an associate professor at Kyoto City University of Arts since 2025. The exhibition takes the body as it changes through running, climbing, and diving as its starting point, moving between body and city, terrain and environment to explore their overlaps and fluctuations. It features new works born from undersea footage captured during Tsuda's recent diving, creating a space where the breaths of body, city, and terrain overlap. An artist talk and other events are planned during the exhibition, and a record book documenting the works and related events will be published at the end of March 2027.
