teamLab Turns the Hamarikyu Gardens at Night into an Art Space: "teamLab Hamarikyu" Opens November 25
Summary
The nighttime art project "teamLab Hamarikyu" by the art collective teamLab will be held at Hamarikyu Gardens in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, from November 25 to December 24. The project is a special program of "ARTE TOKYO," a new arts and culture festival organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo International Arts and Culture Festival Executive Committee, and is produced by Hisashi Sugiyama (Shinryoiki Inc.), who has led numerous urban projects combining art and technology. Hamarikyu Gardens, which dates back to the Edo period and is designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and Special Historic Site, will itself be used as the artwork space, creating an experience in which nature, people, and art resonate and change moment by moment. Attention will focus on what kind of artistic world teamLab unfolds amid the uniquely Tokyo scenery of the traditional Japanese garden with the city's high-rise buildings rising behind it. "ARTE TOKYO" runs from October 10 to December 31, offering diverse art programs across the city, centered on the waterfront area, the Hibiya and Marunouchi area, and the Yoyogi and Shibuya area.
