Chikuhō Art Association Holds Small Works Exhibition in Nogata, Fukuoka, Displaying and Selling 300 Diverse Pieces
Summary
The second Chikuhō Art Association Members' Small Works Exhibition opened on the 24th at the Nogata Jijikan in Nogata, Fukuoka Prefecture. A portion of the sales proceeds will go toward operating costs for the association, which continues to face financial difficulties. The exhibition runs until the 30th (closed on the 26th), with free admission. The association was founded in 1948, and its main Chikuhō Art Exhibition will mark its 79th edition next month, but membership has declined and rising prices have pushed the association into deficit since the fiscal year ending March 2023. The small works exhibition began last year to improve the association's finances and to help sustain and develop the Chikuhō Art Exhibition. This year, 42 members from six categories—Western-style painting, Japanese-style painting, crafts, sculpture, calligraphy, and photography—are showing about 300 works in total. The pieces range from paintings that enrich daily life to usable everyday vessels and small items such as pendants, each reflecting the individuality of the artist. Prices range from a few hundred yen to about 50,000 yen, making them easy to purchase. Visitors came from the morning of the first day, buying works by their favorite artists or taking their time to consider purchases. Miyahara Ryūji (74), vice chairman of the association and chair of the exhibition committee, said, "Encouraged by last year's success, artists' awareness has changed and the number of submissions has increased. It has become a place for good encounters between customers and artworks."
