Architecture festivals from across Japan gather in Ginza: Agency for Cultural Affairs hosts "LinkArchiScape 2026" to consider the preservation and inheritance of architecture
Summary
The Agency for Cultural Affairs will host "LinkArchiScape 2026—Connecting Architecture Tourism" at Ginza Sony Park in Tokyo's Ginza and at Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan in Ikebukuro on November 21–23 and December 12. The event aims to communicate the appeal and significance of architecture festivals that have spread nationwide in recent years, which open modern and historical buildings to the public for limited periods, and to connect interest in architecture to tourism centered on local culture and history. From November 21–23, the "Archi Festival Exhibition" will be held on the basement floor of Ginza Sony Park, introducing architecture festivals across Japan and focusing on four in particular: the Tsuyama Architecture Festival, the Living Architecture Museum Festival Osaka, the Nagoya Architecture Festival, and the Tokyo Architecture Festival. Through video composed via programming from photographs of architecture in each region, the exhibition introduces the characteristics of buildings such as the Tsuyama Cultural Center, the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Main Store, the Nagoya City Art Museum, and the Embassy of Canada, as well as local history and relationships with the community. The venue, Ginza Sony Park, opened in January 2025 and was designed as an urban park open to the city while inheriting the memory of the former Sony Building.
