Opening with a major James Turrell exhibition: Immersive art center "Superblue Kyoto" to open in early 2027
Summary
Superblue Kyoto, the first international outpost of the Miami-based immersive art center Superblue, will open in early 2027 in the southeastern area of Kyoto Station. The facility will be located opposite teamLab Biovortex Kyoto - Taisei Construction, which opened in 2025, as part of a project under the City of Kyoto's "Kyoto Station Southeastern Area Revitalization Policy" to create a hub for creativity and dissemination. The opening exhibition will be a major James Turrell exhibition, featuring works from his early 1960s pieces to his latest, all exploring light, space, and human perception. Visitors will experience installations that challenge their perception of the world, such as immersing themselves in endlessly expanding fields of color or gazing at the interplay of "form" and "depth" created by light. Details on exhibited works, opening date, and ticket information will be announced around December 2026.
