The Supermarket Checkout Becomes an Opera: Lithuanian Contemporary Opera 'HAVE A GOOD DAY!' Has Its Japan Premiere in Kyoto and Aichi

The contemporary opera-performance 'HAVE A GOOD DAY!', created by Lithuanian artists Vaiva Grainytė (librettist), Lina Lapelytė (composer/musical director), and Rugilė Barzdžukaitė (director/scenographer), will have its Japan premiere this autumn. The artists, who won the Golden Lion for best national participation at the 58th Venice Biennale with their opera-performance 'Sun & Sea (Marina)', present a unique work featuring 10 cashiers, supermarket sounds, and piano. This piece, which has toured music, theatre, and opera festivals worldwide, will be performed at ROHM Theatre Kyoto on September 25-26 and at INAC Homi no Kuni Yohashi Arts Theatre PLAT on October 3. Their artistic interest lies in the intersection of documentary and fiction, reality and poetry, and theatre, music, and visual art.
