The new Kawaguchi City Art Museum, designed to reflect local culture and history, opened on September 12 near JR Kawaguchi Station's west exit. Under director Taki Katahata, it houses approximately 220 works. The inaugural special exhibition, "Mika Ninagawa Exhibition: Hajimari no Hikari," running until November 29, centers on photography as Ninagawa's foundational medium, along with personal memories of "family" and "Kawaguchi." Kawaguchi is the birthplace of her father, director Yukio Ninagawa, and a place from her childhood. The exhibition explores how memories of the local "Okame Market," overlaid with her father's tragic stage productions, and the city's landscapes became the primal source of her creative work, offering a chance for Ninagawa to re-examine her artistic origins in this significant location.
