The exhibition "Takimoto Mikio: LUNATION 朔望─Reading Celestial Bodies from the Sea" has opened at the Chigasaki City Museum of Art. It is Takimoto's first large-scale solo exhibition in Japan, featuring a diverse range of works from his early to most recent career. The exhibition is curated around the theme of "朔望 (Sakubō)," referring to the phases of the moon. It uniquely utilizes the museum's seaside location in Chigasaki and its architecture with natural light to present an immersive world across its ground and basement galleries. The ground floor showcases representative series, including the aerial photograph "EBOSHI-IWA" (2020), the Mongolia series "MONGOLIAN TRIBE" (1997) taken during his assistant years, and "CHIGASAKI SEA" (2022) created for an album by astronaut Soichi Noguchi and musician Akiko Yano. These works, among others like "GRAIN OF LIGHT," "LAND SPACE," and "FLAME," explore the blurring boundaries between micro and macro perspectives and humanity's connection to light and celestial bodies.
