Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art hosts a touring exhibition of award-winning illustrations from the Bratislava Biennial of Illustrations (BIB).Summary
The Bratislava World Picture Book Original Art Exhibition (BIB = Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava) is the world's largest picture book original art competition, held biennially in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The first exhibition was held in 1967 in what was then Czechoslovakia, and this marks its milestone 30th edition. The Japan touring exhibition is held at the Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art (1-1 Hijiyama Park, Minami-ku, Hiroshima) in Exhibition Rooms B-2 and B-3 from November 14, 2026 to January 24, 2027. It features award-winning works, including the Grand Prize, selected from 383 picture books by 291 artists from 42 countries, alongside picture books and original illustrations by 10 Japanese representative artists, displayed with related materials. Through diverse illustrations born from different cultures and historical backgrounds, visitors can encounter a wide range of global artistic expression. Related programs include a picture book reading and autograph session by ザ・キャビンカンパニー (January 11, 2027), curator-led gallery talks, and Art Navi Tours. Admission is ¥1,100 for general visitors and free for junior high school students and younger. The ticket also grants access to the concurrently held collection exhibition.
