The Towada Art Center in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture, is hosting a memorial program titled "KUSAMA FOREVER (1929-2026~∞)" to honor Yayoi Kusama. The museum's outdoor art plaza features Kusama's permanent sculpture "Love Is Calling, Singing in Towada" (2010), created for the city and cherished as a local symbol for years. The program aims to carry on Kusama's messages of love and peace and her creative spirit, while reviewing her journey from multiple angles. In a memorial space set up in the museum's "cube cafe & shop" library, related books and photos from her visits to Towada are displayed, and visitors can submit memorial messages until November 29, which are exhibited and recorded in the space (exhibition through December 27). Related events include film screenings, dialogues, and lectures. On October 3, the documentary "≒Yayoi Kusama: I Love Me" (2008), which closely follows the making of her monochrome series "Love Is Calling," will be screened, followed by a dialogue event moderated by museum director Sachiko Shoji. On October 11, an interactive program "Genbi Sanpo" will invite participants to appreciate the permanent work with volunteers and staff. On October 17, the documentary "Yayoi Kusama: Infinity" (2018), covering her early struggles to her breakthrough in the U.S., will be screened, along with a lecture featuring art critic Fumio Nanjo, who has long been involved in curating Kusama's work.
