The exhibition "WE ARE THE HOUSE―Tomoko Mukaiyama + Fuyuhiko Takata (Lodger)" by artist/pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama and artist/video creator Fuyuhiko Takata will be held at WHAT MUSEUM in Tennozu, Tokyo, from January 19 to March 22, 2027. The guest curator is Reiko Tsubaki, curator at Mori Art Museum and concurrently at TOKYO NODE. The core project "WE ARE THE HOUSE," which Mukaiyama has developed worldwide, explores the questions of who "we" are and what a "house" is. At this exhibition, Mukaiyama will transform the entire venue into a single "house" through a large-scale installation centered on new works, including pieces from her 2025 solo exhibition at Arts Maebashi and new large-scale works such as "Hammerklavier." Fuyuhiko Takata, who will "lodge" in this "house," creates video works infused with humor and irony on themes such as mythology, gender, loneliness, and narcissism. The exhibition will feature his video works centered on "Dream Catcher" (2018). By having Takata's works literally "lodge" in Mukaiyama's "house," the exhibition creates a space where their different expressions collide and resonate, questioning what it means to have a place to "live together."
