"ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA 2026" Opens – Introducing This Year's Highlights
Summary
The 11th edition of "ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA 2026" (AFAF) will be held at the Fukuoka International Center from October 2–4, with a VIP Preview on October 1. This year's fair features enlarged booth spaces, bringing together approximately 100 galleries from Japan and abroad, including those from Taiwan, South Korea, and the Philippines. The "Feature" booth spotlights two artists: Cambodian artist Khvay Samnang, known for photography, video, and performance work addressing social themes, who has participated in Documenta 14 and 15; and Kumamoto-based artist Miyamoto Hanako, who won the VOCA Award at VOCA Exhibition 2025 for installations combining painting and video exploring themes of home, family, and connections with others. Both artists' works appear in the main visual and official merchandise. The special booth "Masters" presents "Masters - A Tribute to Yayoi Kusama," a curated exhibition honoring Yayoi Kusama, who passed away in August. Additional programs include the "BUBBLEVERSE" tea experience, daily talk sessions with top collectors, gallerists, and experts on topics such as cultural capital inheritance, sculpture and urban development, and the latest art trends in Asia, and the "AFAF AWARD" open exhibition featuring emerging artists, including a newly established photography section. Satellite programs expand into Hakata's streets, coordinated with "FaN Week 2026," featuring outdoor installations at Sumiyoshi Shrine and a group exhibition "AFAF Crossing Point" at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (both September 26–October 5). The venue also offers limited-edition merchandise at the official shop and a new "Late Pass" for discounted evening admission at ¥1,500.
