Duet—Asian Contemporary @ Tokyo Photographic Art Museum
Summary
The Tokyo Photographic Art Museum is holding "Duet—Asian Contemporary," an exhibition of photographic and video works by six artists from China and Japan, from September 30, 2026 to January 17, 2027. The exhibition is the second in a series following "About Love—Asian Contemporary" (2018) and is co-curated by Tien Chinyun (Teng Qingyun), Executive Director of the Three Shadows Xiamen Photography Art Centre, and Takahiro Ito, curator at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. The title "Duet" refers to a musical form for two performers, and the exhibition explores relationships and resonances that emerge from the intersection of multiple perspectives, cultures, times, and personal experiences. Among the participating artists, four from China—Wang Tuo, Sui Taca (Ta Ke), Luo Yang, and Jiang Pengyi—are being introduced for the first time in a Japanese public museum, while Japan's Toshiya Murakoshi and fumiko imano are also exhibiting for the first time at the museum. During the exhibition, an international symposium, inclusive programs such as a sign-language Q&A show, and gallery talks will be held, and a catalogue will be published. Concurrently, "Fufutatabi Kumitateru: Emerging Japanese Artists vol. 23" will also be on view.
