"MEET YOUR ART FESTIVAL 2026" Opening Report: Directed by Mirai Moriyama, Over 150 Artists Gather.
Summary
The art and culture festival "MEET YOUR ART FESTIVAL 2026" has opened along the Tennozu Canal area in Tokyo, running until October 12. Marking its fifth anniversary since its 2022 debut, this edition features over 150 artists and includes the art exhibition "REFLUX: Rising Signs," two art fairs "MEET YOUR ARTISTS" and "CO-CROSSOVER," a market, live performances, and talk sessions.
The central exhibition "REFLUX: Rising Signs" at Terrada Warehouse G1-5F is artistically directed by Mirai Moriyama, with curators Yoshiyama and Kentaro Watanabe. The term "REFLUX" means backward or circulating flow, and the exhibition focuses on what spills out from the one-directional flow of progress and development in today's rapidly changing society, as well as the pushbacks that arise. At a press conference, Moriyama questioned whether the world should continue transforming at this pace and expressed hope that visitors will grasp the "signs" emerging from the artists' responses.
Executive Committee Chairman Shinsuke Kato shared his vision of not only conveying art's value to society but also creating a new circulation of culture and economy starting from art. Last year's attendance was about 50,000, and ticket sales just before this year's opening are approximately 250% compared to the same period last year.
