"Kawaguchi Tatsuo: Relation─Non-Relation, By the Lakeside" Held at Ichihara Lakeside Museum. Unpublished Works Created at the Boso Atelier Also Featured
Summary
Ichihara Lakeside Museum in Chiba is holding Kawaguchi Tatsuo's solo exhibition "Kawaguchi Tatsuo: Relation─Non-Relation, By the Lakeside" from October 17 to December 20. Born in Hyogo in 1940, Kawaguchi graduated from Tama Art University and has explored the relationship between the visible and invisible in his art. The exhibition features new site-specific installations inspired by the museum's architecture and the lakeside environment of Lake Takataki, along with unpublished works developed in his Boso atelier. The new installations incorporate views of the lake and unique architectural features, creating a space where light, scenery, and space quietly resonate with the works. The unpublished pieces focus on the lives of nearby creatures, bodily changes such as pulse, and accumulated time, contemplating the vast timespan from small life rhythms to the Jurassic and the universe. The exhibition also pays homage to art critic Nakahara Yusuke, who supported Kawaguchi's ideas through "criticism as creation." A related event will be a dialogue between Kawaguchi and sociologist Osawa Masachi titled "The Mission of Contemporary Art."
