"ART TAIPEI 2026" Opens on October 30: 127 Galleries Gather, Including a New Section Focusing on Japanese Contemporary Art
Summary
The international art fair "ART TAIPEI 2026" will be held from October 30 to November 2 at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1. The 33rd edition, themed "Symbiosis," will feature 127 galleries—66 from Taiwan and 61 from abroad. From Japan, Kaikai Kiki Gallery, founded by Takashi Murakami, will participate for the first time in several years.
A highlight is the special section "Turning the Frown Upside-Down," focusing on the Japanese art scene since 2008. Curated by Jeffrey Ian Rosen of Tokyo-based MISAKO & ROSEN, it will feature major Japanese galleries, independent art spaces, and experimental art groups. The fair's overall theme "Symbiosis" will explore the relationship between humans and technology amid rapid technological advancement, as well as works that cross Eastern ink painting and Western abstraction. Exhibitions that transform booths into "temporary museums" are also planned. Additionally, the fair will introduce an AI-powered digital assistant on its official website for the first time, providing multilingual information on galleries, artworks, recommended routes, and programs.
Prior to the fair, "Taipei Art Week 2026" will open on October 24 under the theme "Velocity." Over 80 galleries, museums, and art institutions in Taipei will collaborate on exhibitions and special programs. On October 27, an international forum "Curating Now: Responding to the Present" will be held at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Moderated by Eva Lin, with Russell Storer and Binna Choi as speakers, it will discuss international networks and curatorial practices in contemporary art.
