Report on the Kojima Productions 10th Anniversary Exhibition "BEYOND THE STRAND: A Voyage of Creation and Challenge" at Azabudai Hills Gallery: A Look Behind the Scenes of the Studio That Created a World-Famous Game
Summary
The exhibition "BEYOND THE STRAND: A Voyage of Creation and Challenge," commemorating the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions, is being held at Azabudai Hills Gallery from October 31 to December 20, 2025. Founded in December 2015 by Hideo Kojima with just four people, the studio released "DEATH STRANDING" in 2019, which introduced the "Social Strand System" connecting players through gameplay and featured international actors such as Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and Lindsay Wagner. The series has surpassed 27 million players worldwide, with a sequel, "DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH," released in June 2025. Ongoing projects include a live-action film with A24, an animated feature "DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO" co-produced with Hollywood, an anime series "DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS" slated for Disney+ in 2027, and games "OD-KNOCK" with Xbox Game Studios and "PHYSINT." The exhibition is organized into three phases—"FIRST PHASE" (2015–2019), "SECOND PHASE" (2020–2025/2030), and "THIRD PHASE" (2030 onward)—featuring timelines, related materials, never-before-seen production assets, immersive displays recreating the game's world, and video installations. At the entrance, a life-size statue of the studio's symbol character "Ludens" is on display, redesigned for the 10th anniversary with an "X"-motif antenna and a ceremonial cape, shown publicly for the first time.
