Important Artworks and More: Exhibition to Learn by Viewing Japanese Swords Opens Tomorrow at Kurikara Fudoji Temple
Summary
An exhibition for learning about the history and culture of Japanese swords will open tomorrow at Kurikara Fudoji Temple. A preview event was held today, unveiling resplendent Japanese swords adorned with dragon carvings. One sword on display is said to have been made about 670 years ago and gifted by the Tokugawa shogun family to Date Masamune during the Edo period. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the temple's first public display of its principal image in three years. About 170 Japanese swords, including 20 nationally designated Important Artworks, will be on display for close viewing. The exhibition runs from tomorrow until the 4th of next month, and during the period visitors can experience touching an actual Japanese sword and watch test-cutting demonstrations by an instructor.
