Tanaka Shinpei -- Far from Meaning (Setagaya Art Museum) Report. His Unique Philosophy of Erasing Meaning
Summary
Tanaka Shinpei, born in 1940, spent his early years in Hitachi during the Pacific War. Influenced by modern artist Shinohara Yūji, he joined the Neo-Dada movement. Later transitioning to minimal art, he participated in major international exhibitions like the 1970 'Human and Material' show. This retrospective at Setagaya Art Museum features 40 works, including previously unseen 1970s paintings, late-period planar works, and posthumous metal drawings. It also displays sketches and materials from his Setagaya atelier era.
