“KYOTO EXPERIMENT Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2026” will take place from October 3 to 25 at various locations in Kyoto. Celebrating its 17th edition, the festival uses the keyword "A Pebble in a Pocket" to explore performing arts as a medium for carrying and sharing the memories and stories of others.
The festival consists of three main sections: "Shows" (introducing works from Japan and abroad), "Kansai Studies" (fieldwork in the Kansai region), and "Super Knowledge for the Future [SKF]" (talks and workshops). Key highlights include a duo exhibition by Kaoru Endo and Mitu Sen, a collaboration between Tetsuya Umeda and a high school drama club, the Japanese premiere of Tiago Rodrigues's "By Heart," and Ho Rui An's lecture-performance on generative AI. Other notable programs include a showcase with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, a joint production between Japan and Vietnam, and research-based works by kondaba regarding the Yodo River system.
