In Yamanashi’s Kitadō City, Toyo Ito’s outdoor architectural work “Children’s Playground” is celebrated with a special exhibition titled “Under the Cherry Blossoms—Nature and Architecture.” The show runs from August 1 to October 11, 2026, in the second gallery of the Seishun White Birch Museum. Visitors can view early drawings of the playground, scale models of Ito’s landmark projects such as the Sendai Media‑Take (2001) and the Taiwan National Opera House (2016), and learn about his concept of “Inner Landscape,” which emphasizes the natural, experiential quality of architecture. The playground sits between the Light Museum by Tadao Ando and a tea room by Teruichi Fujimori, forming an outdoor space where children can climb, run, and gather, blending with the century‑old cherry trees and lawns to create a new, generational symbol.
