2027 'Socially Engaged Art Support Grant' Call for Applications Begins. Supporting Projects to Build Social Models with Communities

The Kawamura Cultural Arts Foundation has started accepting applications for the 2027 'Socially Engaged Art (SEA) Support Grant.' The application period runs from August 8 to October 11. This initiative supports projects that engage with communities and society, working alongside local residents to create and present better social models. Since its inception nine years ago, the foundation has supported a total of 51 SEA projects. Grant amounts are 1 million to 2 million yen for one project and 300,000 to 500,000 yen for two to ten projects. Eligibility is open to artists and organizations regardless of age or nationality. Additionally, a new system for extending the grant period due to childbirth, childcare, caregiving, or illness has been introduced this year. The selection committee consists of Yayoi Kudo (Representative Director of ART&SOCIETY Research Center), Tomoko Yabumae (Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo), Akira Koizumi (Artist), and Hirotaka Yamamoto (Cultural Researcher).
