The 19th Minami-Nihon Junior Art Exhibition (organized by Minami-Nihon Shimbun) is currently being held at the Kagoshima City Museum of Art. On the 20th, an artwork commentary session took place, where judge and Minami-Nihon Art Exhibition Ebihara Award winner Kōtarō Misaka explained the techniques and intentions behind the winning and selected works by students from kindergarteners to high schoolers. Misaka noted that "as students advance in grade, they observe and express subjects more carefully" and that "I selected works that use various colors." About 50 participants listened attentively and took notes. Reo Matsushita, a second-year student at Kanoya Technical High School, had his oil painting—expressing the flow of water with thick layers of paint—selected, and he commented, "The techniques mentioned in the commentary were helpful. I want to apply them in the winter high school art exhibition." The exhibition runs until the 27th (closed on the 24th). Admission is 1,000 yen for general and university students, and free for high school students and younger.
