Special Exhibition "Double Body: Eikoh Hosoe and Ken Domon" (Ken Domon Museum of Photography) Report: The Aesthetics of Two Masters Seen Through the "Body"
Summary
The Ken Domon Museum of Photography in Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, is hosting the special exhibition "Double Body: Eikoh Hosoe and Ken Domon" until October 12. This is the first attempt to interpret the works of Ken Domon (1909-1990) and Eikoh Hosoe (1933-2024), two photographers who left a significant mark on postwar photography history, from the perspective of the "body," through approximately 200 works. Domon began as a photojournalist and later developed a realism movement. Hosoe showed early talent and is known for works themed on the body and nudity. The exhibition is structured into 13 chapters, exploring the trajectories and expressions of both artists from multiple angles. Silver frames are used for Domon's works and black frames for Hosoe's, visually distinguishing their aesthetics.
