Yoichi Ochiai's Permanent Theater "null²ⁿ (Nurunuru Nexus)" Opens in Yokohama: An Unprecedented Experience Created by Light, Sound, and Mirrors
Summary
A permanent theater called "null²ⁿ (Nurunuru Nexus)," based on the experience of the Signature Pavilion "null²" at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, will open on October 14 on the 5th floor of Landmark Plaza in Yokohama Landmark Tower. Created by media artist Yoichi Ochiai, the original "null²" was a experiential pavilion combining special mirror films, LEDs, and robotics, and this new project reconstructs that experience as a permanent theater rather than replicating the building. Visitors can enjoy an immersive journey through five rooms, including two LED theaters, over about 60 minutes, experiencing light, mirrors, sound, and video. The entrance "Gate" features an "Eye LED" with a circular LED, similar to the one in the original pavilion. The five areas are: "Room 1: Goodbye Homo Sapiens," where mirrored reflections blend video and space; "Room 2: Dream of No Visual Field," an anechoic space with minimal visuals focusing on sound and voices from multiple speakers; "Room 3: Longing for Mass," displaying about 170 inventions and tools arranged in mirrors to create an infinite expanse; "Room 4: Dream of Latent Space," returning to a digital space; and the final "Bridge: Beyond Symbols," a glass room overlooking Room 3, leading to the exit. The "ⁿ" in the name derives from "nexus," symbolizing connections between people, experiences, and places. Additionally, a project inheriting the worldview, "null⁴ (Tetra Null)," is planned for GREEN×EXPO 2027 in Kamiseya, Yokohama, featuring four rotating and vibrating mirror sculptures reflecting natural landscapes.
