Open Call | Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) 2027 Residency Programs
Summary
Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) is accepting applications for two 2027 residency programs: the Domestic Young Creator Residency Program and the Two-City Exchange Program. The application deadline for both is November 3 at 23:59 (Japan Time).
The Domestic Young Creator Residency Program seeks four Japan-based young creators with at least three years of activity in visual art, film, design, architecture, or curation. The residency lasts a total of 60 to 90 days within one of three periods between early May 2027 and late March 2028. Participants are provided with accommodation, a shared studio, production costs, living expenses, and domestic transportation.
The Two-City Exchange Program partners with overseas cities and arts organizations to send and invite creators. For 2027, it seeks one creator per city for approximately three-month residencies in Basel, Brussels, Dublin, Helsinki, Quebec (Montreal), Seoul, and Taipei. Fields and periods vary by city, and support includes travel costs, production costs, living expenses, housing, and studio space. Applicants may apply to up to two cities. Both programs require applicants to reside in Japan (with resident registration) and have at least three years of activity in Japan. There is no age limit, and non-Japanese nationals may apply. Students are generally ineligible (except doctoral students). A signed recommendation letter from an art professional such as a curator, critic, or university professor is required. Applicants may apply to both programs.
