Shiojiri Art Association Marks 60 Years of Creation with Commemorative Exhibition at City Gymnasium, November 1–3
Summary
The Shiojiri Art Association, based in Shiojiri City and led by chairman Masahiro Komatsu, is marking its 60th anniversary with a commemorative exhibition at the city gymnasium (the former gymnasium) in Daimon Rokubancho from November 1 to 3. Founded in 1965, the association once had nearly 80 members; today it has 36 members ranging from their 30s to 80s who energetically pursue their craft through twice-monthly Tuesday evening drawing sessions, monthly Sunday afternoon study meetings, and spring and autumn sketching outings. The free exhibition, open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., features about 40 member works centering on Western-style painting as well as ceramics and dyeing. A "60th Anniversary Charity Small Works Exhibition" will also be held, with 30 percent of sales prices donated to the city social welfare council. A commemorative ceremony will take place on November 3 at 6 p.m. at the Chushin Kaikan in Daimon Ichibancho. Chairman Komatsu said the association has continued for 60 years thanks to its members and invited anyone interested in art to join, noting that the exhibition offers distinctive, accessible works to enjoy at leisure.
