Kyoto Contemporary Art Fair Expands Support for Young Artists: Where Will the "New Stream" Lead?
Summary
At the Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) contemporary art fair, held at the Kyoto International Conference Center from November 7 to 9, efforts to support young artists are being expanded. This year marks the launch of the "NEW STREAM" program, which invites five emerging artists under 40 from Japan and abroad (Nanami Inoue, Tomoyuki Kawada, Jaehoon Kim, Akiko Kinugawa, and Yumiko Sakamoto) to Kyoto to exhibit and sell their works. Ten percent of sales will be pooled to fund artist support and planning costs for subsequent years, aiming to create a sustainable circulation system. Daisuke Yamashiro, CEO of Twelve Inc., which planned the program, expressed hope that "Kyoto will become a place where artists encounter new people, places, and atmospheres, and that stimulation will become a step toward their next works."
