The exhibition "Ron Mueck" co-organized by the Mori Art Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain has started today.
Summary
The Mori Art Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain have co-organized a major solo exhibition of Australian contemporary artist Ron Mueck, which opened on April 29. The exhibition comprehensively introduces Mueck's creative activities from his early works to recent pieces, featuring many works making their Japanese debut. Additionally, the exhibition presents valuable photographs and video works by French photographer and filmmaker Gautier Droubout, who has documented Mueck's creative process for over 25 years. The exhibition runs until September 23 and features 11 key works, including 6 that are being shown in Japan for the first time. The centerpiece is the site-specific installation "Mass," consisting of 100 giant skull sculptures, which Mueck reconfigures to suit the characteristics of each gallery space. Other notable works include "Woman Shopping," depicting a mother carrying a baby and shopping bags, and "Angel," a reinterpretation of a 18th-century allegory by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. Mueck's sculptures, characterized by their ambiguous yet realistic presence, invite viewers to contemplate the relationship between the human body and the act of living.
