30th Annual Art Exhibition Hosted by NY Japanese Community Opens
Summary
The 30th Annual Art Exhibition hosted by the NY Japanese Community (JAA) and sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in New York opened its doors on the 7th at the JAA Hall. The event was attended by a large number of visitors and exhibiting artists. Following the opening remarks by JAA Chairman Sato Koji, Consul General of Japan in New York Katahira Satoshi delivered congratulatory remarks. To mark the 30th anniversary of the exhibition, Director General Noda Michiyo presented commendations to four artists who have participated since the very first exhibition: Shinohara Yujiro, Sawano Suie, Eda Junko, and Eda Hisahisa. Additionally, special exhibitions featured works by the late artists Iizuka Kunio, Nakazari Hitoshi, Uchima Yasue, Uchima Toshiko, and Wada Steve, drawing in many fans who enjoyed the familiar styles. The children of the late Uchima Yasue and Uchima Toshiko, Uchima Kenji and Yoko, and the wife of the late Nakazari Hitoshi, Sumi, also attended the event. Ambassador to the UN Yamazaki Kazuyuki and economist Paul Sheard were also present, enjoying the works of the exhibiting artists. The exhibition will continue until 3:00 PM on Saturday, the 23rd. Admission is free, and half of the sales price of the displayed works is donated to the JAA. According to Director General Noda, 10 works were sold on the opening day alone.
