"Art Fair Nakanojo 2026" to be held. 37 artist groups participating, a place for purchasing works and exchange
Summary
"Art Fair Nakanojo 2026" will be held in Nakanojo Town, Gunma Prefecture from June 13 to 21. This fair will be held at the historic building of the former Hiroshimori Sake Brewery, which was renovated by architects Kiyoshi Fukushima and Kunihiko Matsuba after ending its role as a brewery. Nakanojo Town is known as the host of the international contemporary art festival "Nakanojo Biennale," which celebrated its 10th edition in 2025 with a cumulative total of 500,000 visitors. As a result of the festival, artists who moved to the area have opened studios and art spaces, spreading culture deeply rooted in the region. Against this backdrop, "Art Fair Nakanojo" was born. Started in 2024 by artists who moved from outside the prefecture, the previous fair saw about 500 works sold. It was noted that local residents, unfamiliar with art fairs, purchased works while directly communicating with artists. The fair creates an opportunity to connect art and the region not only by "viewing works" but also by "buying them."
