Fumi Miyamoto | Regarding Sachiko Kazama's First Northeast Solo Exhibition "Sachiko Kazama Exhibition: 1000-Li Eye of a Hatto Room"
Summary
The Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum will host Sachiko Kazama's first solo exhibition in the Tohoku region, "Sachiko Kazama Exhibition: 1000-Li Eye of a Hatto Room," from June 5 to November 15, 2026. The exhibition will feature works from her early period, recent representative large-scale pieces, and newly created paintings. Kazama recalls visiting Hirosaki about 10 years ago and encountering Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly's novel "Tribulat Bonhomme," which resonated with her experiences of isolation during her middle school years. This exhibition marks a return to her artistic origins, shifting from works that respond to societal stimuli to new oil paintings that express her inner emotions and imagination. The new painting "Thank You, My Beloved Swan!" (2026) combines the scenery of Asadokoro Beach in Aomori with scenes from Wagner's opera "Lohengrin" and local legends. Additionally, acrylic paintings featuring enlarged patterns of "Kurofuda" cards will be displayed. The venue will also include an installation recreating Kazama's "Hatto Room" (studio), displaying materials related to her creative process. The exhibition includes approximately 60 works, juxtaposing her past expressions with her new works.
