The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) has announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Tokyo Research Institute for Cultural Properties to promote joint academic exchange from 2026 to 2030.
The project aims to survey, digitize, and translate Korean art-related archives in Japan for public access. Key activities include researcher exchange, joint research on collections, digital information construction and sharing, international symposia, and academic publishing.
The Tokyo Research Institute for Cultural Properties, an agency under the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs, holds extensive materials on first-generation Korean modern artists such as Ko Hui-dong, Lee In-sung, Lee Jung-sup, and Yu Young-guk, as well as contemporary masters like Nam June Paik, Lee Ufan, and Park Seo-bo.
