Takamatsu City Shionoe Art Museum Exhibition "Hasegawa Takako 'Ark of Time'"
Summary
Takako Hasegawa, a paper-cut artist based in Kagawa, creates large-scale installations using Shikoku washi paper, reflecting local folklore, traditions, history, and culture through the interplay of light and shadow. The exhibition features her new work "Ark of Time" (2026), which is based on the imagery of Noah's Ark from the Old Testament. The work depicts extinct and endangered species emerging from the darkness, symbolizing a search for a vessel to survive human-made disasters like environmental destruction. The exhibition also re-presents her previous work "Forest of Gaze" (2025), which captures the atmosphere and memories of a place where past memories and future regeneration intersect, originally staged at the Ehime Prefectural Tobe Zoo. The exhibition aims to serve as a trigger for viewers to reconsider the value of all life. Additionally, a performance featuring body expression artist KATATASATO and sound artist OOWETS will be held after the closing time on the first day of the exhibition.
