To commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of painter Katsuta Suda (1906–1990), a retrospective exhibition titled "120th Anniversary of Birth: Katsuta Suda Exhibition - I Want to Become Form!" will be held at the Osaka Prefectural Enokojima Cultural Arts Center [enoco]. The exhibition will feature works from the Osaka Prefectural collection and private collections, running from October 16 to November 14.
Katsuta Suda is well-known for his abstract and figurative paintings, as well as his illustrations for Ryotaro Shiba's travelogue series "Kaido o Yuku." Born in Saitama Prefecture, Suda taught himself painting before moving to the Kansai region in his mid-30s. Influenced by his encounters with artists like Kaiun and Saburo Hasegawa, he continued to create works that oscillated between abstraction and figuration throughout his life.
