"Geidai Style: Ways of Seeing Art" Special Tutors Knights Tour the Exhibition! (3) "Approaching the Printmaking Press Inherited from the Master, Gogh"
Summary
In the third installment of their tour of the "Geidai Style: Ways of Seeing Art" exhibition at the Tokyo University of the Arts Museum, the comedy duo Knights (Nobuyuki Hanawa and Nobuyuki Tsuchiya) explores the history of printmaking. Guided by Professor Ryo Furuta, they examine a historic copperplate printing press that was once owned by Dr. Paul Gachet, who treated Vincent van Gogh. The press was later acquired by the Japanese printmaker Kiyoshi Hasegawa and eventually brought to Japan, linking Western and Japanese printmaking history. The exhibition aims to show not just finished artworks, but the tools and techniques used to create them, emphasizing the process of learning and artistic inheritance.
