Nanto City Fukko Art Museum presents "Wind from the North: Shiko MUNAKATA and Yoshitomo NARA" - A Two-Artist Exhibition Born from Aomori's Climate
Summary
The Nanto City Fukko Art Museum in Toyama Prefecture will host the exhibition "Wind from the North: Shiko Munakata and Yoshitomo Nara" from September 12 to October 25. The show features over 50 works by Aomori-born artist Yoshitomo Nara (1959–) and over 30 works by Shiko Munakata (1903–1975), including major pieces. The exhibition explores how Aomori’s harsh yet beautiful natural environment and northern cultural influences shaped their distinct artistic expressions. Works are organized into five themes: "Home and Hometown," "Girls and Goddesses," "Animals and Spirits," "Rhythm and Melody," and "Wind from the North." A special video room on the second floor screens interviews with Nara and rare footage of Munakata’s creative process.
