Summary
The Image Forum Festival (IFF), one of Japan's leading festivals for diverse visual expressions, started accepting submissions on January 31st for its "East Asia Experimental Competition" scheduled for September 2026. Additionally, starting in 2026, a new main program section, "Japan Experimental," will be introduced to showcase highly artistic works by artists residing in or originating from Japan that push the boundaries of new visual expression, selected from the entries that pass the first and second screenings of the East Asia Experimental Competition. The East Asia Experimental Competition, established in 2018, aims to foster exchange and exploration of future artistic expression among creators in East Asia (Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan). Eligible works must have been produced after January 2025. Approximately 20 selected works will be screened in the competition program at IFF 2026, with the Grand Prize (¥300,000) decided by a final jury. The Japan Experimental section will also screen selected works, with one work receiving the Japan Experimental Award (¥30,000) and recommendations for other domestic and international festivals. The submission deadline is Saturday, April 11th.
