The special exhibition "Art of Kure, Makiko Yamaguchi: Playing with the Colors of the Earth" will be held from April 29, 2026, to June 21, 2026. It introduces the career trajectory of Makiko Yamaguchi, a contemporary artist from Kure, along with her latest art works. Her works, which utilize the bleeding of pigments and the wrinkles of paper, are characterized by a high degree of serendipity but are created based on meticulous and thorough sketches. The exhibition features works from the group themed around "Flight" presented at the National Art Center Tokyo's "DOMANI・Tomorrow Exhibition" in 2012, as well as her current projects such as "Rhythm of the Earth" and "River Flowing to the Sea," which are motifs of the landscapes of her hometown, Kure. The exhibition combines these works composed of transparent and deep colors with the sketches and drawings that support them.
