Stilllive Documents 2019–2025 @ The 5th Floor
Summary
The 5th Floor will host the exhibition "Stilllive Documents 2019–2025," which reviews the activities of the performance platform "Stilllive." Stilllive has formed an "experimental space" where artists share expressions and bodily processes through performances and workshops, engaging in mutual criticism. Based on multifaceted practices concerning community, the platform focuses on the intersection of individual bodies and collective collaboration, exploring the conditions supporting expressions and relationships through the contingency inherent in the body. Established by Yuuki Kobayashi and graduates of the Royal College of Art's Performance department following a performance at the "Dada 100th Festival + SPIRAL: GALLERY VOLTAIRE" in 2016, the group has been continuously active since its first event at the Goethe-Institut Tokyo in 2019. The exhibition centers on unpublished photographs and video materials from 2019 to 2025, presenting records that include relationships, tensions, and responses rather than mere traces of events. By juxtaposing practices across multiple years, the exhibition attempts to reposition temporally distant events in the same space, allowing the methodology underlying Stilllive, its evolution, and the process of site generation to emerge fragmentarily. Additionally, on May 16 and 17, 2026, a new performance "Stilllive 2026" will be held at BUoY in Sendai Nakamachi, Tokyo, connecting the accumulated history to the next practice.
