Tate has appointed Jessica Morgan, current director of the Dia Art Foundation in New York, as its new director effective January 1 2027, succeeding Maria Balshaw and becoming the institution’s 10th director. Morgan previously worked at Tate for about twelve years, serving as international art curator at Tate Modern and holding curatorial posts at the Boston and Chicago Museums of Modern Art. She has overseen major collection expansions in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, led the Turbine Hall commissions, and served as artistic director of the 10th Gwangju Biennale. Her appointment coincides with the planned 2027 reopening of Tate Liverpool and a major Turner retrospective scheduled for Japan’s National Museum of Western Art and Osaka Nakanoshima Museum.
