The 81st Spring Nitten
Summary
The Japan Art Academy, known as the "Nitten," is an art organization established in 1898. Led by artists like Yokoyama Taikan, it aimed to develop Japanese painting suitable for a new era. Although it temporarily suspended activities, it was revived in 1914 and continues to play a significant role in the art world by producing outstanding painters. The "Spring Nitten" began in 1945 as a small-scale exhibition of the Nitten. Because of the limited screen size, it features powerful works by painters challenging themselves with novel expressions, offering a different charm from the revived Nitten, which displays large-scale works. At the Adachi Museum of Art, in addition to the revived Nitten, which has been held annually since 2010, the Spring Nitten has been held since 2021. The museum will display a total of 140 works, including new works by Japan Art Academy members and award-winning works. The exhibition will be held from June 6 to June 21, 2026.
