Tokyo National Museum to Renovate 3 In-House Restaurants. Opening Successively from This Summer to Autumn
Summary
The Tokyo National Museum in Ueno, Tokyo, announced plans to renovate three in-house restaurants and cafes. Due to the expiration of its contract with the current operator, Okura Hospitality, operations will cease on June 7. Under new operators, the venues are scheduled to open successively from this summer to autumn. The renovation targets three specific locations: the 'Okura Restaurant Yurino-ki' and 'Cafe Yurino-ki' within the East Asian Gallery, and the 'Okura Garden Terrace' within the Horyuji Treasure Museum. The current venues will close on June 7, the final day of the special exhibition 'One Million Stones! The Maeda Clan'. The museum states that this renovation aims to enhance the visitor experience by transforming the spaces into cultural experiences rather than just dining facilities, with the goal of increasing satisfaction for diverse visitors from home and abroad. From June 9 onwards, during the renovation preparation period, in-house restaurants will be unavailable. However, alternative dining options such as the 'SHOP STOP' food truck in the Main Building's forecourt, the 'TOHAKU Tea House' in the garden, the 'Tsujuya Yasunori' lounge in the Heiseikan during special exhibitions, and the 'Ueshima Coffee Shop Hara Memorial Museum Branch' in the annex of the adjacent Hara Memorial Museum will remain open. Additionally, the museum plans to increase the number of food trucks in the forecourt and expand the dining space. Details regarding the names of the new stores, operators, menus, and opening dates will be announced as they are determined.
