Summary
The exhibition 'What are Folk Tools? — Folklorist Miyamoto Tsuneichi's Folk Tool Collection Left at an Art University' is being held at the Musashino University of Art Museum from June 15 to August 1. This exhibition explores the learning and activities of folklorist Miyamoto Tsuneichi (Honorary Professor at Musashino University of Art) and his students that took place outside the standard curriculum, based on verification and reorganization work on the collection's formation that has been ongoing since 2020. The Musashino University of Art Museum houses approximately 90,000 folk tools, boasting one of the world's largest collections of life-form archives held by an art university. The exhibition features new display experiences, including participatory displays based on observation and conjecture, unexpected curation of folk tools with different backgrounds, and reinterpretation of folk tools through digital technology and spatial expression. During the exhibition period, the Folklore Materials Room storage will be open for viewing every Tuesday and Thursday.
